My 4th review. This one is of the Black Album, which is in my opinion the last great Metallica album. It was also the first album to be produced by the dreaded Bob Rock.
Now if you had just listened to old Metallica and nothin else, than immediately you would realize this album is different than all the old stuff. Not in neccessarily a bad way, but it was. These tracks were heavy, but weren't very thrashy. Now for this album did the style correctly. Obviously it spawned abominations in later albums. So, this album has great production, guitars obviously highest on the mix, drums and vocals right behind it with nearly inaudible bass, which is good, cause Newstead sucks.
The tracks are consistent. They're heavy, some kick-ass solos from Hammet, nice drums, and again, heavy. Now vocally, this is probably the best vocal Hetfield has done. I thouroughly enjoyed him on this album.
All in all I'll give this a 9/10, it's really good. Not the best Metallica album, but it certainly meets the standards I have for one.
Pros:Everything except....
Cons:....you sometimes miss the thrash of the older stuff
