Wassup guys!
So on this thanksgiving day, I am about 20 pounds heavier, and in the mood for a review. Today I'm tackling Worship Music by Anthrax.
So Anthrax is a member of the Big 4 in thrash. Now Ive always talked bad about this band. I've always said they don't belong in the Big 4, and that's just because there are other bands that are out there that are better. That being said though, they are still around, and have released this album. So will this live up to the hype, or will it fall into mediocrity like the bulk of their discography?
Now the first thing that jumps out at you when you listen to this is the guitars. This is full assault, nonstop aggression. These riffs are pounding, technical, and just totally hammer you throughout the record. This is oldschool thrash at it's finest in the riffing on this album. There are also some pretty sweet solos to be found on this as well. The one bad thing I can say? Some of the riffs can get repetitive, and the lack of variation in the tempos to be found is also a drawback.
The drumming is pretty standard for thrash. There are some interesting fills floating around but for the most part its just standard thrash drums. The bass on this album is good when heard, but for the most part is lost in the mix.
Now the last thing I'm gonna address is the vocals. The vocals are done by original vocalist Joey Belladonna. Time has been kind to the guy, as his vocals are the same as they were back in the 80s. The problem is, they just never were any good. His vocals are just bad. They bring down the album for me, and it's a shame cause there is some good stuff that could have been great with a better vocalist.
Pros:Pounding riffs
Good soloing
Old thrash feel
Cons:Riffs can get repetitive
Bass is lost in the mix
Vocals are crap
So all in all guys this album has potential, but is dragged down by bad vocals and repetitive riffs. There are some good moments on this album, but they aren't enough to save it from it's drawbacks. Buy it if you are a big thrash or Anthrax fan, but otherwise buy at your own risk. 6/10
That's it for now. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving and I'll see you next time.
